For a professional cutting experience: WMF Chef’s Edition Damasteel®
Geislingen, March 2021
Cut like never before: that’s the philosophy behind the WMF Chef’s Edition Damasteel® knife series from the new and exclusive WMF Signature Line – which lets you feel, touch and experience perfection. A combination of ergonomic design and extreme precision, the Damasteel® range offers exceptional comfort and is quickly becoming a kitchen favourite. The knives’ remarkably robust blades are made of damask steel – known for its organic light and dark patterns and particular resistance to corrosion. Thanks to WMF Performance Cut technology, the blades stay incredibly sharp for longer, too. That’s why the WMF Chef’s Edition Damasteel® range is an ideal choice for anyone looking for a professional, durable and even longer-lasting cutting experience at home.
The Food Report 2021 reveals a clear trend: for consumers, transparency is key. Discerning customers are paying more and more attention to the origin of their food, how it is produced and even in which supermarkets they shop. Not only do ingredients need to be as sustainable as possible, but they should also offer the ultimate flavour experience. That’s why small farmers’ markets and local butchers are becoming increasingly popular for fresh and seasonal items. Accompanying this trend is a greater focus on the cooking experience itself: after all, the very best ingredients deserve the very best tools to match – skilfully designed and perfect in every detail. Whether chopping tomatoes or pumpkins, slicing fish or meat: the incomparable sharpness of the WMF Chef’s Edition Damasteel® range makes even the cutting process a pleasure. Knives that make an impression – and where preparation is not a chore but something to look forward to.
Top-class materials meet outstanding design
The complex and demanding process of creating blades from damask steel represents the holy grail of craftsmanship for bladesmiths around the world. Damasteel® is a new interpretation of this legendary material – and even surpasses the outstanding attributes of the original. Forged by hand at WMF’s blade forge in Hayingen, southern Germany, the blades for the new WMF Chef’s Edition Damasteel® series are made using an innovative powder metallurgy process to produce steel of the highest purity without inclusions. The result is an extremely sharp knife of incomparable strength, which thanks to its ergonomically designed Cromargan® shaft, feels perfectly balanced in the hand. The WMF Chef’s Edition Damasteel® range provides a professional cutting experience that meets even the highest standards of professional chefs.
Damask-steel blades: each knife unique
Damask steel, also known as Damascus steel, is renowned for its wavy light and dark patterns that are reminiscent of flowing water. Just like damask steel, Damasteel® is produced with high-quality steels of varying hardness that are powdered and bonded under extreme pressure in a vacuum. This creates an incredibly uniform blade made up of around 120layers of steel, which is further refined with traditional drop-forging before being acid-etched and neutralised. Once complete, each knife boasts a one-of-kind blade pattern – making it a unique and outstanding item in every kitchen.
Sharp for longer with Performance Cut
Thanks to WMF Performance Cut technology, the knives of the WMF Chef’s Edition Damasteel® series stay extremely sharp for longer. As a part of this process, the blades first enter a special furnace for heat treatment, causing the steel to become harder and helping to achieve optimum grinding results later on. Each blade is then measured with a laser to determine the perfect grinding angle and subsequently processed by an ultra-precise grinding robot to ensure consistency and top quality. The result is a blade that, thanks to the fine cutting angle, stays incredibly sharp for a very long time. With this “Performance Cut”, the new WMF damask steel knives even exceed the DIN standard for sharpness by more than double.

Ergonomics through special design
The shaft design of the new WMF knife series is as unique as the material. Manufactured using WMF’s very own Cromargan® 18/10 stainless steel, the handle can be held intuitively and professionally thanks to its particularly smooth and ergonomically designed connection with the blade. This enables a level of control usually only mastered by professional chefs. The shaft’s special design also helps to protect your fingers and reduces the risk of slipping while cutting. The WMF Chef’s Edition Damasteel® knives therefore provide users with a highly precise and professional cutting experience.
